An evening of recitation arranged by Barnan to honour Uday Sankar Das

On 24th June 2023 at The Drive Methodist Church was an evening of poetry and music recitations put together by Barnan; a poetry recital group based in East London. The group was formed in July 2022.

Barnan called for this beautiful evening to honour Uday Sankar Das. Das is not only an exceptionally talented reciter but also a senior journalist and a member of the London Bangla Press Club. He also worked at the BBC World Service for over two decades. He is an active contributor in all aspects of the cultural sectors in London.

At the honouring ceremony, many of the prominent members and cultural activists of the Bangladeshi community were present to celebrate Das’s work and enjoy his recitations. Amongst them was Himangshu Goswami, Dr Imtiaz Ahmed, Emad Chowdhury Batirul Haque Shordar, Dilu Naser, Mustafa Kamal Milan and many others.
The evening started with Himangshu Goswami and Dr Imtiaz Ahmed presenting a crest and a shawl to Uday Sankar Das, following by Tanzina Noor-i- Siddique and Manosh Choudhury introducing the programme of the evening with the elaboration of Uday Sankar Das’s work and talents.
The audience was offered with a delightful series of recitations from the members of Barnan ; including Das was Poppy Shanaj, Samar Shaha, Sinthia Das, Manash Chowdhury Tanjina Nur-i-Siddique, Nusrat Jahan Tania.

To complement the recitations with a few verses of melody was Mrittika Shahita and Artika Chowdhury.
The added bonus of the evening was a booklet featuring the ongoing life’s work and service for the community by Das. This booklet has the ex Cultural Minister of Bangladesh Asaduzzaman Noor along with other senior figures such as Ramendra Majumdar, Mofidul Haque and many others who have stated their great experiences of working with and witnessing Das’s life long work for the betterment of humanity through art and culture.
It was a houseful event with many a great spectators who were not only friends, but great fans of Uday Sankar Das.
